09 October 2014 - Philippine Consul General in Honolulu Gina A. Jamoralin welcomed Ilocos Sur 2nd District Representative Eric Dario Singson to Hawaii on September 29.
Representative Singson was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Grace Singson, Candon City Council Members Atty. Kristel Singson and Ms. Rhodana Abrero. Congressman Singson’s trip was upon the invitation of the “Candonians of Hawaii,” a Filipino organization of Ilocanos in Hawaii who originated from Candon, Ilocos Sur.
On September 29, the “Candonians of Hawaii” hosted a welcome party for Representative Singson, who also officiated the oath-taking of the organization’s new officers.
The lawmaker and the Consul General discussed ways on how to promote Philippine culture, including the Ilocano language, arts and craftsmanship, in Hawaii. Representative Singson is also promoting a closer relationship between Honolulu City and Candon City. In 2006, Representative Singson traveled to the island to take part in ceremonies commemorating the 100th anniversary of the arrival in Hawaii of the first Filipino “sacadas,” who were natives of Candon.
While in Hawaii, Represetative Singson met with Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell, Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz and Lt. Governor Shan Tsutsui. END
