22 October 2014 – The Philipine Embassy in Santiago organized a lecture for the Filipino community in Chile on “Foreign Domestic Workers’ Rights in Chile” on September 14. The lecture sought to educate Filipino household workers in Chile on relevant Chilean labor laws and on their rights as foreign workers in the country.
The Philippine Embassy invited Chilean lawyer Jose Ignacio Aris to deliver the lecture, which touched on recent increase in the importation of household workers to Chile, domestic trafficking laws and labor recruitment regulations. Atty. Aris, whose lecture was well-received by the 49 participants, is an experienced commercial and corporate lawyer with extensive experience in supervising labor proceedings in Chile and abroad.
Chile is currently home to approximately 290 Filipinos. The number of Filipino workers arriving in the country has been on the rise for the past few years and is expected to increase further in the coming years.
The event ended with a small get-together for the Filipino community in attendance. END
