23 October 2014 – The Brunei Filipino Educators’ Club (BFEC) held its annual recognition ceremony on October 11 at the Philippine Chancery, in celebration of Teachers’ Day in Brunei Darussalam.
Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Nestor Z. Ochoa and his spouse, Madame Mayie Ochoa, graced the event, which was attended by about 250 teachers from Brunei-Maura, Belait, and Temburong districts.
In his message, Ambassador Ochoa expressed his gratitude to the Filipino teachers for their contribution in the academic development of Brunei Darussalam, as well as their home country – the Philippines.
Ambassador Ochoa and BFEC President Mr. Eugenio V. Mendoza led the recognition ceremonies. Among the teachers who were recognized during the event include Ms. Noorhayati Cynthia Abdullah, Ms. Sylvia C. Espina, and Ms. Naziancina G. Ward, who have been teaching in Brunei for more than 10 years.
The recognition ceremonies were followed by a dinner and raffle draw.
The BFEC was established in 2010, and has been instrumental in implementing various Embassy programs and activities, foremost of which is the Filipino Language and Cultural Enrichment Program being held twice a year at the Philippine Embassy. END
