23 October 2014 - Philippine Ambassador to South Africa Joseph Gerard B. Angeles headed an Embassy team which conducted mobile passport services and overseas voters registration in Durban, South Africa from October 3 to 5.
The Embassy team, composed of Ambassador Angeles, Madame Cecilia Angeles and Embassy attaché Mr. Victor Atangan, was welcomed by Mr. Akash Singh, Philippine Honorary Consul in Durban. The consular team provided services such as e-Passport renewals and certification of documents to members of the Filipino community in Durban and Port Shepstone who had long requested for the said consular mission. The team likewise conducted overseas voters registration to allow members of the Filipino community the chance to vote in the 2016 presidential elections. Ambassador Angeles promoted the overseas voters registration to members of the Filipino community in Durban, encouraging them to register as voters, emphasizing the value of their right to suffrage while being abroad.
The Ambassador also received some 30 Filipino-Muslim students from the province of Kwazulu Natal who paid him a courtesy call. Majority of the students came from Marawi City in the Philippines.
At the sidelines of the consular mission, Ambassador Angeles conferred with Mr. Singh regarding possible business endeavors beneficial for both the Philippines and South Africa. Mr. Singh highlighted the growing potential of Durban as one of the rising business hubs in South Africa. END
