23 October 2014 – Almost a hundred leaders and representatives of the Filipino community in Singapore attended the regular meeting organized by the Philippine Embassy in Singapore on October 18 at the chancery at 20 Nassim Road.
The meeting proper, which was preceded by the networking “Kapihan,” courtesy of PNB Singapore, started with a welcome address by Ambassador Antonio A. Morales who also introduced the officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy who were present.
The Filipino community meeting, which is held once every two (2) months, follows an agenda that always includes an exchange of views on developments that are relevant members of the Filipino community. It also serves as a “billboard” for updates on services provided by the various sections of the Embassy. Events and other initiatives spearheaded by or involving Filipino community organizations are also announced during the meeting.
The announcement of the launching of the pilot test of Philippine Overseas Employment Administration’s Balik Manggagawa Online OEC Application made by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) was no doubt the highlight of this month’s meeting.
The meeting also saw the ceremonial turnover to Ambassador Morales of a donation raised during the Ambassador’s Cup Bowling Tournament on August 31 for the “Tahanang Walang Hagdanan” by officials of the Filipino Bowlers Club Singapore (FBCS), which spearheaded the project. The championship trophy was presented to the team of the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists (PAMET) Singapore who bested all other teams during the competition.
Teachers’ Day 2014 was also observed during the meeting with the showing of a video clip honoring the sacrifices and contributions of teachers in the Philippines and around the world.
The meeting concluded with the traditional salu-salo provided by POLO/Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Singapore. END
