27 October 2014 – Philippine Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores lectured on “ASEAN Diplomacy – The Philippine Perspective” during the ASEAN Diplomatic Training at the Jimei University, Jimei City, Fujian Province on September 12.
Consul General Flores welcomed the participants from ASEAN member countries, including the Philippines, and other non-ASEAN member countries, such as Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Consul General Flores gave the historical account of the establishment of the Consulate General in Xiamen, including the opening of the Chinese Consulate in Cebu and the visits of Presidents Corazon Aquino (1998) and Noynoy Aquino (2011) in Fujian.
He underscored that Xiamen/Fujian shares the most historical and cultural links with the majority of ethnic Chinese in the Philippines. He also highlighted the many facets of the work of the Consulate General covering political, economic and public diplomacy functions.
Thai Consul General Pachuen Phornmongkol also made a presentation.
The program is on its second edition and provides an excellent vehicle for people-to-people exchanges between Fujian Province and ASEAN member countries. END
