27 October 2014 - The Philippine Embassy in Mexico conducted its second museum familiarization tour on October 23 at the Museo de Arte Popular. The tour is in line with its personnel development program, aimed at promoting appreciation on Philippine-Mexican culture among its personnel.
The Museo de Arte Popular is located in the historic center of Mexico, which used to be an old firefighting station. Opened in 2006, the museum is dedicated to promoting and preserving Mexican folk arts. It houses a collection of old and new art pieces that are part of Mexican life and culture. It promotes Mexican crafts of the 32 Mexican states through workshop and other events.
Philippine Ambassador to Mexico Catalino R. Dilem and the Embassy personnel were given a tour of the museum by Dr. Juan Antonio Siller Camacho, a well-respected researcher at the National Institute of Anthropology and a professor at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico.
The Embassy personnel viewed the art pieces depicting Mexican life and culture displayed at the museum. They were able to discover similarities and influences in Philippine-Mexican culture among the items on display such as, religious articles and practices, pottery and weaving. END
