28 October 2014 - Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman visited Hong Kong SAR from October 16 to 18.

Secretary Soliman attended the launch of Habitat for Humanity’s Impact Asia on October 16, which pledged to build 10 million housing units in the Asia-Pacific region by 2020. She also met with Hong Kong-based Filipino media practitioners for an intimate coffee morning on October 17, to discuss the DSWD’s Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan rehabilitation efforts.

The Secretary also met with Hong Kong Social Welfare and Labour Secretary Matthew Cheung to exchange ideas on how to better serve their constituencies, including the Filipino community in Hong Kong.

As a fitting end to her trip, Secretary Soliman visited the shelters maintained by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the Catholic Centre to check on the living conditions of Filipino nationals being serviced by these institutions. She also went to the Hope Centre of the International Social Service to see the various services being offered to ethnic minorities in Hong Kong. END
