29 October 2014 – A team from the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok, headed by Ambassador Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia, conducted mobile consular services for the more than 150 Filipinos living and working in Chiang Rai province in northern Thailand on October 19.  Out of the total Filipino population in the province, more than 120 are working as teachers in public schools.

The team rendered passport, legalization and other consular services, and also registered qualified Filipinos for overseas voting. It also held a dialogue to address some of the community member’s concerns. Ambassador Batoon-Garcia introduced Mr. Agkarajit Phanomvan Na Ayudhya as the incoming  Philippine Honorary Consul in Chiang Rai, with concurrent jurisdiction over the provinces of Chiang Mai, Phayao, Lampang, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, Phrae, Nan, and Uttaradit. Minister and Philippine Consul General Edgar Badajos fielded the queries from the audience.

Chiang Rai is the northernmost province of Thailand. It is bordered by Myanmar to the north, Bokeo Province of Laos to the east, and the Thai provinces of Phayao to the south, Lampang to the southwest, and Chiang Mai to the west. END
