29 October 2014 - Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Antonio A. Morales paid a courtesy call on Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam at the latter’s office at the Ministry of Law on October 21.
While the two officials have met several times in diplomatic and official events, this was the first time that they sat down in a one-on-one meeting.
During the call, Ambassador Morales and Foreign Minester Shanmugam exchanged views on a wide range of issues particularly the bilateral relations between the Philippines and Singapore. They noted that the two countries should continue working together to harness their potential even further by expanding trade, investment and tourism ties. They also discussed the ASEAN integration process.
On regional concerns, the two officials noted that the issue of the Islamic State requires collective action by all countries.
Ambassador Morales took the opportunity to thank the Foreign Minister for Singapore’s hospitality towards Filipino workers, Singapore’s assistance to the survivors of typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan and for the two-year extension of the lease of the Philippine Bayanihan Centre. END
