29 October 2014 - The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago reports that the Monthly Meet Up on October 15 at the Kalayaan Hall had as a guest speaker Professor Mark Rice of St. John Fisher College in New York.

Prof. Rice gave a presentation entitled “Why should we know Dean Worcester” at the Consulate’s Kalayaan Hall.  He spoke about Worcester’s controversial photos of Filipino tribes, which were taken when Worcester was colonial administrator in the Philippines in the early 1900s.  Members of the Filipino American community of Greater Chicago, staff members from the Field Museum of Chicago, and Consulate staff were present in the event.

The event was hosted by the Consulate General in cooperation with the Filipino American National Historical Society (Midwest).  It celebrated Filipino American History Month, and was deemed a resounding success by the participants, some of whom claim that the event is a great example of “how Filipino American History Month should be celebrated.”

Filipino dishes were then served at the conclusion of the meeting.  END
