30 October 2014 – Philippine Ambassador to France Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, on behalf of President Benigno S. Aquino III, conferred the Order of Sikatuna with the rank of Datu Katangiang Pilak (Grand Cross, Silver Distinction) on US Ambassador to the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Daniel W. Yohannes in a simple ceremony at the Philippine Embassy in Paris on October 29.

Ambassador Yohannes received the decoration in recognition of his contribution to the conclusion of the Philippines-United States Millennium Challenge Compact; for his commitment to stronger and more robust economic ties between the Philippines and the United States; and for the successful implementation of the Compact  that supported the Philippines’ good governance reforms and anti-corruption efforts.

Ambassador Yohannes assumed his post as Permanent Representative of the United States to the OECD on May 02. Prior to this post, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, the independent US foreign aid agency helping lead the fight against global poverty.

US Deputy Permanent Representative to the OECD Peter Haas accompanied Ambassador Yohannes. Philippine Embassy officers were also present during the ceremony. 

The Order of Sikatuna was established in 1953 and is conferred by the President of the Republic of the Philippines to individuals who have rendered exceptional and meritorious services to the Philippines, and to diplomats, officials and nationals of foreign states who have rendered conspicuous services in fostering, developing and strengthening relations between their country and the Philippines.
