30 October 2014 - Officials from the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Subregion 37 visited the Philippine Consulate General on October 27 to personally present a copy of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between NLRB and the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on the promotion of awareness of workers’ rights protected by the National Labor Relations Act. The MOU was signed on October 22 in Washington DC.
Atty. Thomas Cestare, Officer-in-Charge and Atty. Meredith A. Burns of NLRB Subregion 37 conveyed to Vice Consul Joyleen E. Santos their office’s plans to work closely together with the Consulate General to reach out to Filipino workers in order to provide them information on their rights, as well as their employers’ responsibilities to ensure fair treatment in the workplace.
Possible collaborations between the Philippine Consulate General and the NLRB may include joint seminars, training, outreach and information sharing. The NLRB expressed interest in taking part in the Consulate General’s future projects and activities for Filipino workers under its jurisdiction and joining mobile consular outreaches to the other islands.
