31 October 2014 – World-renowned Filipino painter, Manuel Baldemor, conducted an art workshop on October 28 at the Philippine Embassy in Mexico, with children of the Embassy staff as its participants.
The Embassy also launched its first Pinoy ice cream cart (kariton). The kariton was made the centerpiece of the art workshop, wherein the children drew and colored objects on the space provided for them in the kariton. Embassy personnel and some Filipino community members also joined in the workshop by doing their own drawings on the kariton.
The ice cream cart was skillfully made by Mr. Dennis Cruz, Property Officer of the Embassy, while Mr. Baldemor painted the ice cream cart with pictures and objects depicting Philippine and Mexican culture. The kariton will be a permanent feature at the Filipiniana section of the Embassy.
Philippine Ambassador to Mexico Catalino R. Dilem, Jr. thanked Mr. Baldemor for conducting the workshop. He gave the children brief information about the Pinoy ice cream cart, which has become one of the widely recognized Philippine traditional symbols, reminiscent of the ice cream preparation of the past, and a common sight in many Philippine streets.
