3 November 2014 - The Philippines is catching the attention of travelers from around the world, and Filipinos are being encouraged to do their part as tourism ambassadors, as the Department of Tourism has designated 2015 as “Visit the Philippines Year.”
The international community has its eyes on the Philippines as a top travel spot, as seen in the recognition given to the country by top travel publications, according to Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose L. Cuisia, Jr.
“The influential travel guide, Lonely Planet, has come out with its list of Top 10 destinations in the world to visit in 2015 and ranked the Philippines at number 8 while the award-winning US travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler has named Palawan the ‘Top Island in the World’ based on over 76,000 votes from its readers,” Ambassador Cuisia told the Philippine Nurses Association of New England (PNAME).
In his remarks during the 24th anniversary and induction of officers of the PNANE, Ambassador Cuisia encouraged the nurses, who constitute a large portion of the Filipino diaspora in the United States, to become tourism ambassadors for the Philippines.
“The Department of Tourism has proclaimed 2015 as ‘Visit the Philippines Year’ and we count on your help to make this a success. I ask you to consider being our tourism ambassadors, particularly at this time when there is renewed interest from across different tourism markets in the Philippines,” said Ambassador Cuisia.
“The slogan ‘It’s More Fun in the Philippines’ can only truly be effective if some of our best spokesmen abroad, namely, yourselves, invite others to enjoy our diverse tourism offerings,” he added.
According to the Ambassador, the Philippines has experienced a phenomenal growth in tourism in the last four years with the tourism department unveiling promotions plans, emphasizing five main themes - business meetings, history and culture, lifestyle and entertainment, music and arts, and sports, adventure and eco-tourism.
He said the Philippine Embassy and the Consulates General in the US are also gearing up for
Visit the Philippines 2015 with the 10th Ambassadors, Consuls General and Tourism Directors Tour (ACGDT) set to be the biggest installment of the program yet.
The ACGTDT gives Filipinos and Americans living in North America the chance to experience the beauty of the country's top destinations and witness remarkable progress that has been achieved during the past years. END
