07 November 2014 – Philippine Ambassador to Canada Petronila P. Garcia paid a courtesy call on the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Deepak Obhrai at Center Block of the Parliament of Canada on November 04.

Secretary Obhrai welcomed Ambassador Garcia and offered the warm hearts of Canadians at the outset of the change in season.

Both Ambassador and Secretary Obhrai agreed that relations between the Philippines and Canada are right where they should be, given the strong people-to-people linkages between the two countries.

Secretary Obhrai recalled his several visits to the Philippines in recent years and attested to his positive encounters with Filipinos who have become stakeholders in Canadian society as well.

The Ambassador reiterated her gratitude for the support lent by the people of Canada to Filipinos affected by super typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan, the first anniversary of which is being commemorated this week. Ambassador Garcia also stated that Filipinos are solidly behind Canada in the wake of recent terror attacks in the country.

Both the Ambassador and the Secretary agreed to keep their lines of communication open in furtherance of the excellent relations between the two countries. END
