10 November 2014 – A delegation from the Bukidnon State University (BSU) visited the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago. The 14-member team is composed of students, staff, and employees of the University, and was led by the following: Dr. Joy Mirasol, Mrs. Rosanna S. Generato, Mrs. Josephine Eugenio, Mr. Pepito Montero, and Mrs. Mercibelle Barroso-Abejuela.
The team was in Chicago from October 22 to 27 for the exhibit entitled, “Looking Forward by Looking Back: The Bukidnon a Century Hence” at the Field Museum of Chicago. The exhibit is of the personal effects, instruments, clothing, implements and weapons from the Bukidnon of Mindanao, which are part of the artifacts collected by Fay-Cooper Cole during the early part of the 20th Century, during his journey to the Philippines.
The team called on Philippine Consul General Generoso D.G. Calonge on October 23, elaborating on the exhibit at the Field Museum as well as the ongoing projects that they were working on. The team was thankful to the Consulate General for its continued support for the collaborative activities between the Bukidnon State University and the Field Museum, and also with the Northern Illinois University. The team provided the Consulate General with a copy of the coffee table book on the researched Bukidnon artifacts which the University produced.
The exhibit was held at the Field Museum of Chicago on October 24, and was considered a great success by the Museum officials. Lectures about the artifacts were conducted as well as performances of Bukidnon dances and songs. Around 200 people attended the event. Vice Consul Ricarte Abejuela III represented the Consulate General during the event.
The exhibit was the culminating activity of the research partnership between the Field Museum of Chicago and the Bukidnon State University. END
