11 November 2014 – The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto, Canada conducted a consular outreach mission to Regina, Saskatchewan from November 01 to 04 for the last quarter of 2014. This is the second mission conducted in Regina and the fourth in the Province of Saskatchewan.

The Philippine Association of Saskatchewan, a longtime partner of the Consulate General in Regina, once again assisted in the conduct of the consular outreach mission. In the spirit of Halloween, the team gave away chocolates and candies to applicants, young and old alike, during the outreach. A total of 779 applicants were served with a significant number coming from as far as Alberta and British Columbia who drove all the way to Regina with some for more than 15 hours to have their passports renewed. Close to 60% of those served had themselves registered as overseas voters for the 2016 elections.

The Consulate General also noted that regular and more frequent consular outreach missions are still needed to service Filipinos in far-flung areas whose numbers more than doubled in the past five years alone.  Many have expressed their appreciation to the Philippine Government, through the Consulate General, for conducting provincial mobile consular outreach missions, citing that they were spared the time, effort and financial cost of having to travel by air all the way to Toronto for consular services.
