20 November 2014 - Kinderhilfe Philippinen e.V. held a charity concert on November 08 to mark the 13th German-Philippine Cultural Evening at the ballroom of Saarbrücker Castle, one of the most impressive landmarks of Saarbrücken, the capital of the state of Saarland, Germany.
Kinderhilfe Philippinen First Chairperson Anita Novack explained that the musicians and dancers from Germany, Austria and the Philippines waive their fee and ask guests for donations to Kinderhilfe Philippinen e.V., which is a non-profit organization that mobilizes fund-raising drives for the Educational Research and Development Assistance (ERDA) Foundation, Inc.
Kinderhilfe Philippinen Second Chairperson Claude Villeroy de Galhau read out the letter of Fr. Pierre Tritz, SJ, President Emeritus of ERDA Foundation, who on behalf of the foundation expressed his thanks to Kinderhilfe Philippinen’s kind-hearted support and continued commitment to provide educational assistance to deserving school children in the Philippines.
The cultural evening featured the talents of music students from the Saarbrücken Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium, as well as ritual and festive Philippine dances performed by the Folkloristische Tanszgruppe der Philippinischen Kulturgemeinschaft based in Saarland. The event highlights were the performances of pianist Dr. Abelardo Galang from Berlin, tenor Abdul Candao from Vienna, and Saarbrücken poet Vera Hewener.
In his welcome remarks, Philippine Embassy in Berlin First Secretary and Consul Adrian Cruz took note of the sincere efforts by overseas Filipinos and German residents to provide emergency and humanitarian aid to the victims of typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan. Consul Cruz noted in particular Kinderhilfe Philippinen’s financial contribution to the cash assistance that ERDA Foundation gave to some 2,000 beneficiaries who experienced the disaster brought about by Typhoon Haiyan.
