brasilia bazaar

20 November 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Brasilia took part in the Bazar Internacional Diplomático at the Clube Exército, Brasilia on November 08, The bazaar was organized by the Grupos dos Cônjuges dos Chefes de Missāo (Group of the Spouses of Chiefs of Missions) and participated in by almost 70% of the diplomatic missions based in Brazil. Food and handicrafts from various countries were put on sale. The proceeds from the sale went to charity. Around 3,000 guests from both the government and private sectors attended the event.

The Philippine Embassy set up a booth to showcase Filipino dishes. Ms. Remedios Prado, a Brasilia-based Filipina who was the guest chef of Sheraton-Port Alegre Hotel in the Philippine Food Festival in 2012 and 2013, cooked adobo, Filipino-style chicken barbeque and fried chicken, pancit bihon and lumpiang shanghai.The Philippine food was so well-received by the diplomatic community and the Brazilian guests that the booth ran out of food to sell two hours before the closing of the event. The booth had a nook laced with information brochures to promote tourism in the Philippines.

To simulate the Filipino fiesta, the Embassy also prepared a game for the children, Paluan the Palayok (Hit the Pot), at the “Children’s Corner”. The game was played twice -  one in the morning and another in the afternoon. The participating children greatly enjoyed playing the Paluan ng Palayok to the delight of the watching parents.

Overall, the event once again helped make the Philippines more widely known to the Brazilians in line with the Embassy’s policy to bring the Philippines closer to the eyes, ears, and tastes of people from the other side of the globe. END
