21 November 2014 - The Philippine Embassy in Abuja participated in the 2nd Nigerian International Wine Festival being held from November 19 to 21 at the Silverbird Entertainment Center in Abuja, Nigeria.
The opening ceremony was graced by Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation Director General Sally Mbanefo who thanked all exhibitors for their participation. Special mention went to the Philippines for sharing its culture through the wine and products displayed at its booth.
In response, Philippine Ambassador to Nigeria Alex V. Lamadrid expressed the Embassy’s gratitude to the organizer for the opportunity to showcase Philippine products in the second edition of the wine festival.
Ambassador Lamadrid highlighted the ‘lambanog’ for having similarities with the Nigerian palm wine, and hoped that it will be made available in the Nigerian market in the future. He also invited the Director General Mbanefo and all the guests present to visit the Philippines.
Among the Philippine wine and spirits exhibited, Tanduay Rhum and Ginebra San Miguel generated the most interest among male visitors for their high alcohol content.
The three-day festival is expected to bring together world class and quality wine makers, importers and distributors from across the globe to showcase their products’ brands, share knowledge and explore the enormous potentials in the Nigerian wine, spirit and beverage industry. Each night of the festival allows participating countries to showcase their wine and spirits to the general public through wine tasting activities at the Sheraton Hotel. The Philippine Night is set on November 21. END
