25 November 2014 - Philippine Ambassador to Austria Lourdes O. Yparraguirre and other Embassy representatives graced the opening of “Faces of CARE: Philippinen – Taifun Haiyan – 1 Jahr danach” or “Faces of CARE: Philippines – Typhoon Haiyan – One Year Hence” on November 12 in Vienna. The photo exhibit was organized by CARE Austria, a humanitarian aid company, and BAWAG P.S.K. Bank

The photographs exhibited were taken by renowned Austrian photographer Tom Platzer and shows the beneficiaries of CARE Austria’s relief operations in Eastern Visayas after Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan struck the region.

In her remarks, Ambassador Yparraguirre thanked CARE Austria on behalf of the Philippine government and people for being one of the first responders after Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan struck. She also noted the fast pace of recovery of Yolanda/Haiyan-affected areas and that the photographs on exhibit showed the resiliency and ability of Filipinos to smile in the face of extreme adversity.

The event was well-attended by people from all walks of Austrian society including students, photography enthusiasts, among others, and was a good opportunity to raise the Philippines’ profile in Austria.

The exhibit ran until November 21 and is located at the historic Postparkasse Building in the center of Vienna.  END
