26 November 2014 – Representatives from the Department of Agriculture (DA) met with Philippine Ambassador to Yangon Alex G. Chua on November 24 to discuss opportunities for Philippine products in Myanmar.
Ambassador Chua expressed hope that more products from the Philippines would enter the market in Myanmar. He noted the visibility of Philippines goods in Myanmar, such as Oishii snacks and Splash beauty products. He said, “Philippine products are increasingly made available in the market. We now have Sunkist beverages and URC products.”
With the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, the Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with Embassies in the ASEAN region, is actively promoting Philippine agriculture products.
The eighteen-member delegation, headed by Special Agriculture Representative Ana Abejuela, are in Myanmar for Linamnam Fiesta, a week-long festival to be held at Shangri-La Sule from November 26 to December 02.
Linamnam Fiesta will showcase Philippine processed food, condiments, seasoning, snack foods, beverages, and wines and spirits, as well as Philippine decors.
Besides the food festival, the delegation will conduct market scanning activities and meet with major distributors and retailers in Myanmar. On November 28, the delegation will host an Exporters/Importers Meeting which will gather exporters from the Philippines and importers from Myanmar. The delegation is also expected to visit organic farms in Myanmar. END
