Hong Kong

26 November 2014 - Ms. Xyza Bacani, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Hong Kong who captured the attention of the photography world and international media including New York Times, International Herald Tribune and Vogue Italia, held her first photo exhibit in Hong Kong from November 19 to 24 at the Philippine Consulate General.

Titled “Xyza in Focus,” the event showcased 20 of Xyza’s works in black and white that feature people, places and sights in Hong Kong as main subjects.

According to Xyza, her interest in photography started back when she was still in the Philippines. Unable to purchase her own camera then, she pursued her craft in Hong Kong when she was given a camera.

“Photography should come from the heart,” were Xyza’s words when asked about her art during her talk before the Filipino community on November 24.

Xyza mostly takes photographs during her days-off.   Given her busy schedule and limited off-hours, one is amazed at the rawness, beauty and stillness of the moments she captures in a place as busy and crowded as Hong Kong.

Xyza is also passionate about OFW issues in Hong Kong and has expressed the hope of putting up an exhibit of the photographs she has taken of Filipino workers.

“Xyza in Focus” was organized by Pintura Circle, in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General.  END
