Yanggon

28 November 2014 – Linamnam Fiesta kicked off on November 26 at the Shangri-La Sule Hotel in Yangon, Myanmar.

Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua and spouse, Madam Marla Chua, and Shangri-La Sule Hotel General Manager Caroline Chea opened the week-long food festival with ribbon cutting followed by a Press Lunch.

Ambassador Chua, in his opening speech during the Press Lunch, invited members of the press to savor each dish and while doing so reflect on what Philippine cuisine tells about the Filipino as a people. He said, “Malinamnam is how Filipinos describe the multi-layered and sumptuous taste of food that makes one want for more servings. I hope that you too will find Philippine cuisine malinamnam.”

Members of the press were treated to Philippine traditional dishes--atchara (pickled vegetable), binakol (stewed chicken in coconut water), adobong manok at baboy (chicken and pork in soy sauce and vinegar), and pili sansrival--showcased by Filipino Chef Jam Melchor.

Ms. Nyein Nyein Aye, a writer for Information Matrix, a technology, media and services company in Myanmar, said she liked binakol (stewed chicken in coconut water) for its sweet taste and fragrant aroma. Ms. Virginia Henderson, writer for The Irrawaddy, an English language-based publication, said she liked the pili sansrival for the taste and texture.

Linamnam Fiesta runs through until 02 December 2014. END
