28 November 2014 – Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua met with Manila Water’s Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee Fernando Zobel de Ayala and Group Director for Corporate Strategy and Development Virgilio C. Rivera Jr. on November 24 to discuss Manila Water’s pilot non-revenue water reduction project in Yangon.

Ambassador Chua expressed hope that the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding for the Pilot Non-Revenue Water Reduction Project in Yangon City between Manila Water, Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) and Mitsubishi Corporation, will provide an opening for Philippine companies like Manila Water to enter Myanmar’s water industry.

The MOU signed in March this year aims to improve the Yangon City government’s provision of clean and potable water. With the pilot project, Manila Water aims to replicate its success in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam and to eventually introduce the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) concept to the Myanmar Government. END
