28 November 2014 - Officials of the Philippine Embassy in Beijing joined other ASEAN officials in the ASEAN Cultural Week’s Film & TV Co-production and Tourism Forum held in Beijing on November 25. The Philippine Embassy made a pitch for the Philippines as a film location, stressing “Why your next film should be located in the Philippines.”
During the forum, the Embassy introduced the key advantages for foreign producers interested in filming or shooting in the Philippines, and highlighted the long history of filmmaking in the country. The Embassy also shared the list of award-winning and foreign blockbuster films in the past decades which were partly or wholly filmed in the Philippines.
The representatives of Chinese film associations who participated in a panel discussion underscored the opportunities presented by the large film market in China - the second largest in the world, with more than 700 films produced annually. The filmmakers also expressed keen interest in collaborating with foreign filmmakers, particularly in the Southeast Asian region, where there is cultural affinity with the Chinese people.
To promote collaboration on film production, the Philippine Embassy disseminated to Chinese industry professionals and film producers information on the procedures for foreign filmmakers interested in filming in the Philippines, as well as contact details and direct links to Philippine counterparts, urging Chinese participants to seriously consider the internationally-recognized advantages of the Philippines for the successful filming of their upcoming major film projects.
