3 December 2014 – The 2014 ASEAN Gala event organized by ASEAN missions in Singapore was successfully held at the Indonesian Embassy on November 28.

The Myanmar Embassy in Singapore spearheaded preparations for this year’s edition of the annual gala event, on the occasion of Myanmar’s ASEAN chairmanship.

The venue of the event featured booths from ASEAN missions that showcased the diversity of ASEAN culture and culinary traditions and that of South Korea as the occasion also observed the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-Korea Dialogue relations.

The Philippine booth was highlighted by life-size displays of the Philippine barong and terno, all made of piña fibre, that became a favorite backdrop for photos. Also featured were classic Filipino recipes including chicken adobo, pancit bihon, suman with latik and buko-pandan.

A performance by the Singapore-based Filipino group “Vocablends” capped a spirited Philippine presence in the event.

A number of guests from the Philippine Embassy won major prizes during the much-anticipated raffle draw of the night.

Next year’s ASEAN gala event will be chaired by the Malaysian High Commission. END
