11 December 2014 - The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong, in partnership with the Hong Kong Musicians Union (HKMU) and the Hong Kong Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), staged the 2014 Concert in the Park on December 07 at the Hong Kong Cultural Center Piazza C.
Titled “Music in the Park”, the Concert in the Park featured for the first time Best Music with Charliah Best, a violin group composed of kids of various nationalities, to the delight of more than 3,000 attendees.
Seven other bands performed. These are: Proteus, Slam, AG’s Platinum Band, Retro Groovers, Rapido Bandidos, Brown Sugar, and Chris Polanco & Azucar Latina Ensemble. They are composed of Filipino musicians based in Hong Kong, as well as Hong Kong musicians and band members from Australia, Brazil, China, Cuba. France, Sri Lanka and the US. The audience danced and sang with the bands who rendered Filipino and Chinese pop songs, Latin jazz and samba music, and Christmas carols.
Hong Kong-based Filipino radio personalities Michael Vincent, Jun Paragas and Jay Martinez served as emcees for the event.
The Concert in the Park is a major annual activity of the Philippine Consulate General under the auspices of Philippines-Hong Kong Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cultural Cooperation signed on 14 February 2003. The MOU aims to foster cultural exchanges especially through arts, culture and education.
