16 December 2014 - The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, represented by Madame Mayie Ochoa, spouse of Ambassador Nestor Z. Ochoa, the Philippine Embassy’s Information and Cultural Officer Eleanor Belgica, Labor Attaché Violeta Illescas participated in the charity activity organized and conducted by the International Women’s Club of Brunei Darussalam (IWCB) on December 06 at the Old Folks Home, Community Service Centre in Seria, Kuala Belait, Brunei Darussalam.      

The activity was attended by 21 IWCB members, spearheaded by Madame Ochoa, Honorary Vice President of the IWCB, along with Hajah Feridahanam binti Haji Abang Zen, IWCB Vice President, and the spouses of the Ambassadors of Korea and India.

The IWCB group donated cash gifts, food items, and other daily necessities to the 10 senior citizens currently residing at the facility. The group also entertained the residents with song numbers after a simple lunch.

This activity is in line with IWCB’s efforts in promoting communal benefits and charitable assistance to less-fortunate individuals in Brunei.

The Old Folks Home in Seria, a care center for homeless senior citizens in the Belait District, was officially opened in 1957. The center was established through the cooperation among various Bruneian public and private sectors, with the objective of providing care for the well-being and needs of less-fortunate senior citizens in Brunei Darussalam.
