18 December 2014 - Ms. Amparo Teresa Acuña, a 17-year old Filipina won the silver medal at the 38th Southeast Asia Shooting Association (38th SEASA) championships held in Singapore on December 13.
Ms. Acuña, the Philippines’ one and only delegate for the 50-meter rifle prone category, held her ground against 30 other shooters from seven (7) different countries many of which were Olympic veterans and almost twice her age.
She survived the 1st eliminations on the 1st day placing 5th by scoring 610 that advanced her to the final eliminations the next day. She shot a total score of 614.18 during the final round.
The teenage shooter competed in the event using her own savings and with help from her Olympic scholarship fund which she got last November. With her strong determination, Ms. Acuña not only defended the bronze medal that she won during the 37th SEASA championships in Malaysia but elevated herself to second place in the current tourney.
She will compete in the 50-meter rifle three positions on December 16 to 17 at the Singapore National Shooting Range. END
