18 December 2014 - The 18th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) successfully opened on September 08. The 4-day international event attracted an estimated 50,000 visitors representing 932 delegations from 110 countries and regions.
This year’s CIFIT saw 1,455 investment projects signed and attracted a total investment of RMB¥463.9 billion (US$74 billion), both record highs.
This year’s CIFIT featured topics such as the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, Cross-Straits trade with Taiwan, foreign direct investments, and cross-border e-commerce.
As a sister-city partner of Xiamen, the Cebu City government was represented by a 16 member delegation led by Vice Mayor Edgardo C. Labella along with city councilors and the private sector led by businessman Mr. Joseph Gaisano.
Among the activities attended by the Cebu City delegation is the Forum for Friendship Cities, in which Vice Mayor Labella made an excellent presentation on Cebu City’s trade and investment attractions and tourist sites, highlighting its 30-year partnership with Xiamen.
Philippine Consul General Julius Caesar Flores joined the Cebu Delegation during the courtesy call on Xiamen Vice Mayor Zhang Can Min on September 10, where Vice Mayor Zhang cited the long standing relations between Cebu and Xiamen cities as well as the warm and cordial relations between the City of Xiamen and the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen.
In response, Vice Mayor Labella expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended by the Xiamen government to the Cebu delegation and assured his counterpart of a more active interaction including the proposed street naming in Cebu City and declaration of Cebu-Xiamen Friendship Day.
