07 August 2013 - The Philippine Embassy recognized the achievement of Mr. Jake Ramos in sports for having won both silver and bronze medals in the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints, respectively, during the Maccabiah Games 2013. 

Philippine Ambassador to Israel Generoso D.G. Calonge himself gave the citation to Mr. Ramos on August 04 when the latter paid a courtesy call at the Embassy.  During the visit, Ambassador Calonge congratulated the 15-year-old athlete for his feat and for bringing honor to the Philippines in the field of sports.

Mr. Ramos was born in Santiago City, Isabela and migrated to Israel in 2008 to join his mother.  He is currently studying at the Kiryat Sheret, a sports school in Holon City, where he is also training for track and field.  Although it was his first time to join the Maccabiah Games this year, he has been reaping medals in various national and local sports competitions.  Mr. Ramos, who has been involved in sports training and competitions since he was eleven years old, says that he dreams to compete in the Olympic Games someday. 

The Maccabiah Games is one of the biggest international sports event attended by Israeli and Jewish athletes around the world.  It is held every four years in Israel and often referred to as the “Jewish Olympics.”  This year, the Games listed 78 participating nations and around 9,000 athletes, including Mr. Ramos.
