19 December 2014 - Brazilians got a taste of "Paskong Pinoy" (Filipino Christmas) as the Philippine Embassy in Brasilia hosted a Christmas Party for the Filipino community and friends on December 14 at the Bahay Pilipino (Official Residence).

In lieu of the traditional "Simbang Gabi" or Dawn Mass, the program started with a thanksgiving mass officiated by Rev. Father Marcelino Sotaridona, a Filipino priest assigned in the Federal District of Brazil. The eucharistic celebration was made more solemn by the angelic voices of the members of Totus Tuus Coral, a Brazilian children's choir headed by Mr. Paulo Bittencourt.

After the mass, the Totus Tuus Coral also serenaded the guests with Christmas songs. Not to be outdone, members of the Filipino community gave a rousing rendition of Filipino carols. The program was capped by the time-honored exchange of gifts and videoke singing.

Among the more than 100 guests were Brazilian friends of the Embassy and members of the diplomatic community who were all very vocal in praising the Filipino style of Christmas party including the Filipino dishes highlighted by the crispy lechon (roasted pig).

The Philippine Embassy also showed some Filipino handicrafts and products including "Sikhay" traditional textiles donated by DAWN, Inc., a non-governmental organization (NGO) that assists migrant Filipinas and their families. The guests were also given tourism materials and general information booklets about the Philippines. END
