29 December 2014 - The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago participated in the Third Kwentuhan Session held at the Field Museum of Chicago on November 09.  The Kwentuhan Session is a partnership between the Field Museum and the Filipino-American community under the leadership of 10,000 Kwentos, which is composed of representatives from different Filipino-American Organizations in Chicagoland.

The sessions revolve around a select number of objects from the Philippines which are part of the 10,000 artifacts collected by Fay-Cooper Cole during his journey to the Philippines in the the early part of the 20th century.  The kwentuhan sessions are part of the initiative of the Field Museum under the philosophy of “co-curation,” in which the museum consults and directly involves the community from which the objects of culture originate.  The Field Museum has selected the Philippine artifacts collection and the Filipino-American community as the first co-curation initiative.

During the session, Consul General Generoso D.G. Calonge thanked the Field Museum for the initiative and commended the members of 10,000 Kwentos for their active participation in the project.  The members of the Filipino-American community then proceeded to examine the select artifacts on display and discussed their experiences and what they know of the artifacts.

The session ended with a serving of Filipino snacks courtesy of 10,000 Kwentos.  END
