5 January 2015 - Renowned Ugandan businessman, Captain Abhay Agarwal took his oath of office as the first Philippine Honorary Consul in Kampala, Uganda before Chargé d’ Affaires, a.i. Donna Celeste Feliciano-Gatmaytan in a simple ceremony held at Captain Agarwal’s office in Kampala, Uganda on 22 December 2014. The Republic of Uganda falls under the jurisdiction of the Philippine Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya.

Mr. Agarwal is a retired army captain and a well-known businessman in Uganda. He is currently the country head and Managing Director of the largest IT company in Uganda, the NCR Service and Computer Industries (U) Ltd., which also operates in Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, South Sudan and soon in Kenya.

Nairobi 4Mr. Agarwal expressed his strong commitment to advance the bilateral relations between the Philippines and Uganda through trade and tourism. He also vowed to protect and promote the welfare of Filipino citizens in Uganda.

After the oath-taking ceremony, Chargé d’ Affaires Donna Celeste Feliciano-Gatmaytan together with Ms. Indira Pauline B. Desales, Administrative Officer, Ms. Jekelyn T. Arago, Finance Officer and Ms. Jereme E. Lagura, Consular Assistant conducted a briefing on the administrative and consular functions of the Philippine Honorary Consulate.

Members from the Filipino community were also present during the event and congratulated Captain Agarwal on his assumption to office.

A mobile consular service was also held at the Consulate in conjunction with the event. Forty five (45) Filipinos availed of various consular services such as renewal of passport, authentication of documents, registration of nationals, while five availed of the overseas voter registration.  END
