07 January 2015 - The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong SAR commemorated the 118th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal on 30 December 2014 with wreath-laying rites held at Rednaxela Terrace at the Mid-Levels and D’ Aguilar Street in Central, Hong Kong.

Rednaxela Terrace was the site of the residence of Dr. Rizal from December 1891 to June 1892. He practiced medicine from 1891 to 1892 in a clinic at D’ Aguilar Street. 

A simple program followed with Consul General Bernardita L. Catalla paying tribute to Rizal by providing a brief background on his life and contribution to Philippine independence. She expressed hope that Rizal would serve as an inspiration for Filipinos, especially the youth. The program concluded with the reading of Rizal’s poem “Ang Huling Paalam,” (Tagalog version of “Mi Ultimo Adios”) by Filipino youth Erika Gomez and Jake Nuere.

hk3bThe event was attended by officers and staff of the Consulate General, Philippine Overseas Labor Office, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Pag-IBIG Fund and Social Security System, and representatives from Filipino community organizations, namely Knights of Rizal, Lakbay Danggal and Damayan OFW Hong Kong.
