08 January 2015 – Philippine Ambassador to Nigeria Alex Lamadrid personally presented to Alex Quarmyne on December 20, 2014 the Certificate of Appreciation signed by Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Loyalty Pin, in honor of Mr. Quarmyne’s 15 years of loyal service as Philippine Honorary Consul in Accra, Ghana, during the Philippine Embassy team’s visit to the Filipino community for a Christmas celebration held at the residence of the Philippine Honorary Consul.

Ambassador Lamadrid also announced the promotion of Consul Quarmyne to the rank of Honorary Consul General. In response, Mr. Quarmyne thanked the DFA for the great honor bestowed upon him, and likewise expressed his gratitude to his Filipino spouse Wilna, and to the officers and members of the Filipino community organization in Ghana – the Pakikipag-isa ng mga Pilipino sa Ghana (PILSAG), whose assistance enabled him to perform his functions as honorary consul effectively, particularly in helping Filipinos in distress.

Honorary Consular Corps of Ghana Dean Amarkai Amarteifeo and Vice Dean Dimitri Avraam, who were among the attendees during the celebration, conveyed their congratulations and that of the Honorary Consular Corps of Ghana as well as the World Federation of Honorary Consuls to Consul Quarmyne on his achievement, and remarked that the honor is well deserved. They wished Consul Quarmyne further success.

The Christmas celebration was attended by more than 50 Filipino community leaders in Accra, and was highlighted by a dinner featuring Philippine food such as a crispy lechon, dinuguan, puto, leche flan, and other delectable Philippine dishes.

Ambassador Lamadrid was accompanied by Assistance-To-Nationals Officer Raymund Ondiano and Communications Assistant Clifford Legal. The Philippine Embassy team rendered consular services such as processing of e-Passports and applications for overseas voters registration during the celebration. END
