08 January 2015 – Philippine Consul General Olivia V. Palala paid a courtesy call on Chongqing’s Vice Mayor Liu Qiang on 30 December 2014. It was a joint courtesy call arranged by the Foreign Affairs Office (FAO) of Chongqing to welcome the Consuls General of Cambodia, Hungary and the Philippines, who have just recently assumed their posts.
During the courtesy call, Vice Mayor Liu welcomed the new Consuls General and, particularly for the Philippines, he expressed interest in advancing the relations between the Philippines and Chongqing. The Vice Mayor expressed that he looks forward to a renewed commitment and cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, people-to-people exchanges and other areas of cooperation.
Consul General Palala expressed her appreciation for the warm welcome of the Chongqing Government and pledged her commitment to advancing the relations between the Philippines and Chongqing to the best of her ability. She mentioned, among others, the hope that more tour groups will be organized for travel between Chongqing and Kalibo, Aklan, and for a Chongqing-Davao sister-city agreement to be finalized within the year.
FAO Director General Zhu Xiyan, Deputy Director General Chen Gaoshan, and Chongqing Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Commission (COFTEC) Deputy Inspector Bai Xiaoling, were also in attendance. END
