NYPCG partnership with New Jersey University

14 August 2013 - The Philippine Consulate General in New York and the New Jersey City University (NJCU) have agreed to pursue activities that will serve their mutual interests.

The agreement was reached during the visit of Consul General Mario De Leon, Jr. to Dr. Sue Henderson, NJCU President, last August 07 at NJCU.

“This meeting is part of the Consulate General’s program to strengthen its partnership with academic institutions in its areas of jurisdiction,” Consul General De Leon said.

Dr. John Melendez, NJCU’s Vice President for Student Affairs, and Consul Zaldy Patron were also present at the meeting.

The Consul General offered to assist NJCU in establishing cooperation and linkages with Philippine universities. Dr. Henderson welcomed the proposal and expressed NJCU’s interest in having an exchange program with Philippine universities for nursing students and faculty.  Nursing is one of the programs offered in NJCU.

The two officials also agreed to hold events at NJCU in October to celebrate the Filipino American Heritage Month. Among the plans being considered are film showing, lecture series and cultural event about the Philippines.

NJCU is located in Jersey City, New Jersey where there is a large Filipino-American community. The events will allow the NJCU students to know more about the Philippines while the Filipino Americans will also become more familiar with NJCU and the courses it offers for the students. END
