bangkok financial04 February 2015 - Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia, accompanied by Minister and Consul General Edgar Badajos, with Thai TV Channel 7 Assistant Managing Director and Acting News Manager Somkiat Charoenpinyoying on January 28 to personally hand over the original letter of thanks from Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman for the television company’s financial donation to the victims of typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan. During the meeting, the Ambassador reiterated the Philippine Government’s gratitude for the company’s financial assistance to the typhoon victims. 

The Ambassador was also interviewed about the Philippine Government’s efforts to help the typhoon victims and how it can help or is helping other countries in addressing similar risks posed by natural disasters. She said that the Philippine Government has invested in Doppler radars and related equipment to improve the country’s weather-forecasting capability. She added that efforts are ongoing to rebuild safer homes for those who were displaced by the typhoon. Ambassador Batoon-Garcia likewise said that Philippine representatives share the country’s experiences in dealing with natural calamities in international conferences to encourage other countries to adopt strategies to minimize the extent of damage caused by similar disasters.  END
