05 February 2015 – Philippine Consul General Marciano R. de Borja called on newly appointed Director of the Guam Department of Labor (GDOL) Maria Connelley on January 27 to congratulate her on her appointment as new GDOL Director.
The two officials exchanged views on the situation and prospects of the labor market in Guam in view of US military buildup and other island infrastructure projects.
Director Connelley shared the bright prospects in the Guam labor market that will benefit Filipino workers particularly in 2015. She pointed out that Guam relies mostly on the Philippines for skilled manpower and that she is quite happy with the performance of the Filipino workers in Guam. She also said that she expects the continued hiring of Filipino workers as long as the Philippines could provide them under the H2B program.
She reiterated GDOL’s commitment in ensuring the welfare of the skilled workers by sharing some of her initial plans and programs for GDOL.
Consul General de Borja, on the other hand, assured Director Connelley of the Consulate General’s support and cooperation in terms of facilitating the requirements needed by the Filipino workers coming to Guam. He also took the opportunity to inform and invite Director Connelley to join the 10th Ambassadors, Consuls-General and Tourism Directors Tours (ACGTDT) that will be held from July 06 to 10 in Manila and Cebu.
Director Connelley was joined by Mr. Greg Massey, Director of the Alien Labor Processing and Certification Division (ALPCD) of GDOL while Consul General de Borja was accompanied by Consul Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian. END
