15 August 2013 – The Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai organized a commemorative activity to celebrate the 46th Anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The activity was held on Saturday, August 10, at the Consulate’s premises and was attended by all Consulate personnel and some 30-plus members of the Filipino community in Shanghai.
The program, which started at 3:00 pm, began with the singing of the Philippine national anthem followed by the ASEAN anthem. Consul General Charles C. Jose then gave his remarks. This was followed by the showing of a 30-minute film about ASEAN — background information on its founding, history, and aspects of the group’s cultural diversity and similarities.
Focusing on ASEAN’s economic integration, Consul General Jose noted in his remarks that the Philippines should do more to improve its overall investment and business environment if it is to remain competitive in attracting foreign direct investments, which are a key driver of economic growth and development, especially when ASEAN becomes a single economic market with the establishment of the ASEAN Community in 2015.
The program concluded with a merienda cena hosted by the Consulate for all those present. END
