09 February 2015 – The Philippine Consulate General in Milan reached its 7,000th  registrant since it started overseas voters registration on 06 May 2014.

The United Ilonggos in Italy (UNITY) invited the Consulate General to conduct overseas voters registration during their first general assembly on February 01.  Twenty one (21) new registrants were gathered from the members of UNITY out of the 40 attendees.  Several members also inquired to confirm their status as active voters.

The 7,000th registrant is Edgardo Eranco, a Makati native who has been living in Italy for the past 26 years. Edgardo works with the Malaysian Tourism Promotions Board in Milan but goes above and beyond his duties to promote Philippine tourism as well. Edgardo happily noted that the “It’s More Fun in The Philippines” campaign by the Department of Tourism has a positive effect in increased interest in the Philippines among Italians. He hopes this interest among Europeans in the country will continue especially after the recently concluded papal visit.

The Consulate General continues to vigorously encourage the Filipino communities in Milan and Northern Italy in all available fora including Filipino community celebrations, Filipino masses and other gatherings, to register as overseas voters for the 2016 national elections. END
