17 February 2015 – The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi participated in the 5th Asian Food and Crafts Bazaar 2015 on February 07 at the official residence of the Indian Ambassador. The bazaar was organized by the Asian Group of Spouses of Ambassadors in Abu Dhabi and was participated in by other countries, namely, Bangladesh, Brunei, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, South Korea and Thailand.
Her Highness Sheikha Alyazia Bin Saif Al Nayhan, wife of UAE Foreign Minister His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was the Guest of Honor at a special Inaugural Programme exclusively attended by the spouses of the Ambassadors and invited lady guests.
A fashion show featured traditional costumes during the inaugural programme. Representing the Philippines, Ambassador Grace Relucio Princesa went on stage wearing a beautifully-designed “banaca” wrap by noted Filipino fashion designer Dita Sandico Ong.
At the opening ceremony of the 5th Asian Food and Crafts Bazaar, Madame Zakia Hasnat, spouse of the Ambassador of Bangladesh, welcomed all guests and visitors to the event.
Ambassador Princesa spoke at the opening ceremony and thanked the Asian Group of Spouses of Ambassadors and the host Embassy for the successful conduct of the event. She also expressed her support and active engagement as the current Chair of the Asian Diplomatic Group in Abu Dhabi and being the first Lady Ambassador to head the group.
La Comida Fresh Market Dining & Catering participated in the Food Bazaar and sold specialties such as Paella La Comida, Palabok Supreme with puto, leche flan and other Filipino delicacies. La Comida is managed by Mr. Jose Jovy Tuaño, Managing Director of Asia Gulf Companies, and Director of Trade and Industry of the Philippine Business Council of Abu Dhabi.
For the cultural programme, students of the Philippine Emirates Private School (PEPS) performed a medley of Philippine traditional dances: the Tinikling, Sayaw sa Bangko, and Bulaklakan. The performance was concluded with a local upbeat dance to the tune of “Piliin mo ang Inang Pilipinas”. The lively and colorful performance drew the crowd dancing and clapping. The presentation was made possible with the support of PEPS Principal Rosemarie Natividad and MAPEH teacher Lorielyn Francisco, who were also present during the program.
Prizes from participating Embassies were given to lucky raffle draw winners during the event. END
