Agana 17th exhibit2

16 August 2013 - The Philippine Consulate General in Guam and the Guam Filipino Artists (GFA) opened the 17th Exhibit of the Guam Filipino Artists (GFA) at the Philippine Consulate General on Wednesday, August 14.

The exhibit features the two young lady members of Guam Filipino Artists, Misses Priscilla Cabildo and Nyssa Galanto

The GFA continues to recruit talented Filipino artists in Guam and Priscilla is one of the newest members.  She is a Culinary and Pastry Arts graduate in the Philippines who discovered her passion for photography four years ago. Her love for photography started as a hobby but as she continued to explore the beauty of God’s creation behind the lens, she got hooked and it became more than just a hobby.

As a self- taught artist, she discovered her talent also in abstract painting. She then applied her photography skills into her paintings and started to visualize the beauty that she sees behind her lens.

Priscilla’s works are filled with intense emotions of sadness, joy and excitement. She likes to play with different textures and to create variations of colors that contrast each other. With the right selection of colors, her artworks exclude a harmonious balance of energy and calmness. Her artworks on display at the Consulate General consist of some of her black and white photographs and abstract paintings.

Nyssa, on the other hand, is a budding artist who specializes in watercolor. Her raw talent was recognized by the Congressional Art Competition in her high school years.

She is always thinking of new ideas and is working towards increasing her ever-growing portfolio.

This is the second time that Nyssa displayed her artworks at the Consulate General, the first one was in July 2012.

Ms. Jacqueline Balbas of the Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities Agency (CAHA) was the special guest for the opening ceremony of the exhibit.

The exhibit was also attended by the family and friends of the two featured artists as well as the officers and members of the Guam Filipino Artists.  END
