25 February 2015 – Philippine Consul General Marciano R. de Borja paid an introductory call call on several top officials of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) during the consular outreach services conducted in Chuuk and Pohnpei from February 12 to 17. The meeting allowed the Consul General to inform FSM’s officials of the consular mission being conducted as well as to explore and exchange information and ideas on possible areas of cooperation between the Philippines and the states of Pohnpei and Chuuk, FSM.
Consul General de Borja met FSM President Mori on February 12 at the Truk Stop Hotel in Chuuk on the sidelines of the latter’s meetings and consultations with the local/state officials of Chuuk.
The Consul General thanked President Mori for the timely financial assistance extended by the FSM government to the Philippine government for the benefit of the victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda that struck the Philippines in November 2013 and for the kind treatment accorded by the FSM government to the overseas Filipino workers in Micronesia.
President Mori, on the other hand, requested Consul General de Borja to convey to “my good friend, President Aquino, my heartfelt appreciation for the important contribution and assistance of the Filipinos in FSM in attaining the level of development that it now enjoys.”
Prior to meeting the President, Consul General de Borja called on Chuuk State Governor Johnson S. Elimo at the Governor’s office.
During the consular team’s visit to Pohnpei, FSM’s capital, Consul General de Borja also called on Deputy Foreign Affairs Secretary Samson Pretrick and Dohsis Halbert, Speaker of the 18th Congress of FSM, on February 16. He also paid a call on the Michael Peterson, Lt. Governor of the State of Pohnpei on February 17, before the the consular team returned to Guam. Consul General de Borja was accompanied by Consul Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian and Philippine Honorary Consul in FSM Dr. Merlynn Abello-Alfonso. END
