02 March 2015 – Philippine Ambassador Cecilia B. Rebong, the officers and staff of the Philippine Mission and the Filipino community in Geneva commemorated the 29th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revoultion on February 22.
Activities undertaken by the Philippine Mission/Consulate General to commemorate the EDSA Revolution include the launch of a booklet containing the Chronology of the Events of the EDSA People Power Revolution and a week-long film showing of “Puso at Diwa ni Ninoy,” at the Consular Section.
Ambassador Rebong impressed upon the Filipino community the importance of remembering the EDSA People Power Revolution, where the Filipinos’ love for freedom and democracy triumphed over tyranny and toppled the Marcos dictatorship. This historic event inspired other peoples, especially in Eastern Europe, to overthrow their own dictators. She called on the Filipinos in Geneva and Vaud to ensure that these hard-fought for freedoms are safeguarded through the performance of civic and political duties exemplified by registering to vote.
The Filipinos who attended the launch expressed their appreciation to the Mission/Consulate General for their steadfast commitment to promoting Philippine culture and history. END
