09 March 2015 - Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Nestor Z. Ochoa, along with selected Heads of Missions and other members of the diplomatic corps, participated in the 2015 Regatta Brunei Darussalam on March 01 held at the Brunei River, Bandar Seri Begawan.

The event was graced by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, taking part in the 15-Rowers Fiberglass Special Boat Race. With his fiberglass boat named Rajawali, His Majesty led his Regata Brunei Darussalam Committee Team A to win the 500m special race. 

The 2015 Royal Regatta was attended by over 1,412 local and international competitors from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, and was jointly organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.

The Royal Regatta aims to restore the glory of boat racing in Brunei Darussalam and promote tourism. It started in the 1950s when His Majesty’s late father, Al-Marhum Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, took part in the annual event. Continuing his father’s legacy, His Majesty has participated every year since the regatta’s revival in 2012.      

Participating teams were awarded medals and were recognized by His Majesty the Sultan during the event. END
