11 March 2015 - With seven months left of the overseas voters (OV) registration period, the Philippine Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office and Other International Organisations/ Consulate General in Geneva (Mission/Consulate General) undertook several initiatives to intensify its efforts to promote voter registration within its jurisdiction.
The Mission/Consulate General partnered with the Filipino Swiss Sports Club, a Geneva- based sports group, to reach out to and register the youth and sports-minded Filipinos in Geneva and Vaud, allowing them to vote during the 2016 National Elections.
The Mission/Consulate General also organized receptions, seminars and forums in order to reach out to those working in the United Nations and other international organizations, and the private sector.
The Mission/Consulate General has also opened its doors on Sundays, most recent of which was on February 22, to give Filipinos more opportunities to register.
The Philippine Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Cecilia B. Rebong, continuously stresses the commitment of the Mission/Consulate General to ensure that every Filipino within its jurisdiction will be given the opportunity to exercise their right of suffrage in 2016, by tirelessly promoting overseas voting registration in all available avenues.
